After Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) was officially announced on March 1st, 1981, this university did not have a campus so that ‘Gedung SPG Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta’ was temporarily loaned and functioned as the first campus
In 1988, a central campus of UMY was initiated to be founded on the area of 25 hectares in Ngebel, Tamantirto, Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. In July 1995, the establishment began, and in 1997 the construction of UMY’s primary buildings so-called twin towers was accomplished.
